With Fall just around the corner, I’m reminded that it’s time to give my closet a refresher! And now is as good a time as any to bring my dreams to life and to make my own clothes.
With my current lifestyle, I just need simple and clean clothes. I prefer functionality and multiple wearability, especially for my pants and leggings. I’m always moving from here to there. I want every part of my closet to be intentional and mindfully chosen.
Let me share with you my 7 Fall capsule wardrobe ideas in hopes that you are inspired to start your own Fall capsule wardrobe!
What Works and What I Already Have
I’ve had somewhat of a capsule wardrobe for some time now, and I’ve learned a thing or two that works for me.
For example, I follow a color palette that makes me feel elegant, comfortable, and satisfied. A color palette makes all of my outfits much more cohesive and easy to choose in the mornings and throughout the day.
Another thing is I have certain types of clothes that I run to time and again. I always grab for a loose shirt and fitted pants, and I love my white shoes. I also prefer versatile dresses and sporty outfits that I can wear on repeat.
And to keep things fancy, I have a few blouses made of silk or sheer material. Essential belts, jewelry, and boots tie everything together. Here are some everyday and going-out outfits.
For me, leveling up or feeling fresh does not require getting a whole new closet. It’s rather being strategic about what statement pieces will give my outfits a brand new feel.
My goal is to have my clothes mindfully made and luxuriously curated. Without further ado, these are 7 DIY ideas I want for my Fall ’24 wardrobe.
Tops
- The perfect tee
Nothing screams chic simplicity more than a crisp t-shirt. I love having them in my basic colors. I think it’s a really good investment to own the perfect tee, especially after realizing how quickly my current store-bought shirts simply don’t last.
I’m currently working on sewing the perfect luxurious tee, and once I do, I plan to share how I did it with you.
2. Long sleeves
Once the shirts are done, I do want to extend that knowledge to form-fitting long sleeves. I love layering my long sleeves under other shirts for extra warmth and interest. I get inspiration from the layered looks styled by Free People.
There is a great tutorial by MsRosieBea that I will be following when it comes time to sew these.
Bottoms
3. Bottoms
I actually don’t think I need more pants – I rather miss my old ones. It would be very hard to find new jeans that I will like as much as the ones I already own.
By mending my old jeans, I could be even more satisfied than just buying new ones on a whim. And it would give me back like 5 pants for free instead of one new expensive one.
The same can be said for workout leggings. They aren’t cheap, so being able to mend them would be the A+ way to go.
Outerwear
Nothing says Fall like knitwear. Since I know how to knit, I plan to make a few simple things. I just love that I can support my favorite knitwear designers as well.
4. Vivienne Cardigan by Wool and the Gang
It’s super easy to make and looks very elegant at the same time. The garter stitch is having its moment and that’s literally the first stitch anyone learns in knitting.
Imagine it being made in a neutral colored silk or wool blend. I’d have my go-to cardi for the rest of the year.
5. Oslo Hat by PetitKnit
I have a bunch of handmade beanies that are still lasting me all these years, but I just want a new color. Since I’m out and about so much, I can add a new camel or black color to the circulation.
6. Balaclava by Well-Loved Knits
I don’t know if this is trendy anymore, but I personally just need it. When the nights get colder, I’ll need some warmth for my head. Otherwise, I’ll be prone to getting sick all the time!
This balaclava was self-drafted by one of my favorite knitting vloggers. I LOVE that I can support and show my love by finally making one of her patterns.
Accessories
7. Kit Bag by Ms RosieBea
Finally, speaking of accessories, I’d love to add a mini duffle to my closet. I’ve always wanted to have one for small weekend getaways, or just another project bag for my many, many WIPs. This one is just the simple, sweet, and practical bag I was looking for.
There you have it! Seven DIY projects for my Fall 2024 wardrobe! I hope you found some inspiration going through this list.
I think self-suffiency is such a good feeling. But it’s not easy to go from store-bought everything to handmade everything. It took me a lot of time to feel confident in my sewing and knitting abilities before taking on these projects. But I was constantly inspired from what I found online, like I hope you are today.
Till next time, xo.
