14 FREE Fun and Easy DIY Halloween Crafts

uniquelycommoncrafts, September 29, 2024September 29, 2024

Halloween is coming up around the corner, and I’m already noticing all of the fun halloween crafts that are coming up in my feed. I love seeing all of the unique crafts for costumes and decor. There’s something new to try each year!

Today, I decided to share with you 14 FREE fun and easy DIY Halloween Crafts anyone can get started on, and with very minimal starting materials. Who doesn’t love getting into the spirit, especially when it’s resourceful and super easy?

These are easy and entertaining halloween crafts for both adults and kids. Whether you’re looking for small projects for the house, office, or school – or need to find quick props for parties, I got you covered. I’m going to organize this by material so you more easily decide what to make first. All of these supplies can also be found at your local store.

Without further ado, here are 14 DIY projects to get into the Halloween spirit.

Paper Halloween Crafts

Of course, we’re starting with paper halloween crafts. They’re the most resourceful and accessible material in most households. You can even use up old magazines and newspapers, which really kills two birds with one stone.

1. Paper Mache Spiders by UniquelyCommon (me!)

I’m sure you know about paper mache – you can sculpt practically anything using scraps of paper and a starchy glue solution. And that’s just what I did with these giant spiders.

I don’t currently have a tutorial for this (let me know if you’d be interested!). However, in general, I used big and small balloons to make the spider torsos, and rolled up newspaper to make the legs and large fangs. I’m linking a quick paper mache tutorial to get you started if you’re curious.

2. Doily Ghost Paper Craft by Handmade Charlotte

These doily ghosts would make GREAT ephemera for snail mail. Using doily paper gives these cut-out ghosts extra interest from something we’ve all seen time and again. This cute and simple project would even go great on DIY cards or Halloween themed journaling.

3. Apothecary Labels by That Halloween Bro

When you think of DIY halloween decor, you gotta think of an apothecary. That Halloween Bro is coming in clutch with providing free printable apothecary labels to make your life easier. We all need an improvised halloween idea in our back pocket! Just gather your favorite jars, print the labels, cut them out, and stick them onto different jars!

Coffee Filter Halloween Crafts

4. Elizabethan Crows by Eighteen25

Coffee filters are actually good substitutes for crepe paper. These Elizabethan crows give a carnival feel to your decor and can be added to other props besides crows. I really love these because they provide a worn-look that feels more authentic to Halloween. Not to mention they are truly scary to your pets (“the cone of shame!”).

Pipe Cleaner Halloween Crafts

You’ll find the cutest office halloween ideas here on this list. With some simple pipe cleaners, you can spend smaller pockets of time making little desk buddies for yourself and your work fam. They’d really be blown away by your creativity!

5. DIY Pipe Cleaner Pumpkins by Myriam Mejia

This miniature pipe cleaner pumpkin is a cute little desk buddy – you can also easily turn this into an ARMY of desk buddies if that’s what you prefer. For those of you with less time on your hands to get crafty, but still want to get into the Halloween spirit, this project is perfect.

You can add a hat to it too with the next project.

6. Pipe Cleaner Hats by Spunnys

I can definitely see witch hats or even Dr. Jekyll’s top hat with this project. Again, these pipe cleaner projects are great if you have less time on your hands, or just want to work on a little something during your breaks.

7. Spider with Pipe Cleaners by Flowers Crew

Now this spider is the definition of a creepy crawly. If you want something scarier to make with pipe cleaners, you can try your hand at making these tarantulas. This is a free video tutorial by Flowers Crew. Note that this does use some fire to clean up the edges so be careful wear and who is making this.

Cardboard Halloween Crafts

8. Halloween Skull Mask by Reuse and Play

There are countless cardboard costume ideas out there, and rightfully so. Cardboard is very easy to find and sturdy enough to hold its shape when working with it. There are a lot of paid templates for cardboard costumes, but this one is completely free.

If you are looking for a quick improvised halloween costume, you can make this skull mask using an old cardboard box. This template also comes with a free video tutorial on YouTube.

Pool Noodle Halloween Crafts

9. Faux Chains by That Halloween Bro

Adding rusty chains to your space can provide a torture chamber-like feel, which can be just the perfect touch if you want to spice up the good old cotton spider webs. I love how creatively a pool noodle was used here. You can easily add more chains outdoors as well for an ominous chamber vibe for visitors.

10. Pool Noodle Candles by That Halloween Bro

This next halloween pool noodle idea is a great if you are looking for something more lightweight than PVC pipes. You can also cut and tie together sections more easily. I would definitely want to make this the next time I throw a Halloween party.

11. Easy Yarn Pumpkins by Sunshine and Munchkins

I had to add a pool noodle pumpkin craft to round out the versatility of this unassuming foam tube. There’s no painting required here and is a great opportunity to use up your leftover yarn.

Just Around the House Halloween Crafts

12. DIY Spooky Ghost Candles by Brit+Co

These wavy candles are a very easy but impactful project. If you have extra candlesticks lying around, you can easily make these with the video tutorial by Brit+Co. These ghost candlesticks are a fun and unexpected centerpiece, which is sure to draw attention and compliments.

13. Pumpkin Treat Bags by Hello Wonderful

If you are looking to use up your felt, make these cute little drawstring bags. I think these would make great treat bags to give to friends, family, or coworkers. They’re also very easy to make since you simply hole punch the felt. There is no sewing required!

14. Pumpkin Painted Rocks by It’s Always Autumn

Finally, the last resourceful way to use what’s around your house is to paint pumpkin rocks. I know I love seeing painted rocks on front lawns and where I least expect them. There’s something very fun and wholesome about painting rocks, and you can get really creative painting each of the faces.

Conclusion

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this selection of easy and resourceful DIY Halloween crafts. These projects are great for when you have less time to get creative, or just want something simple and mindless to make. A good number of these make for great DIY outdoor Halloween decorations. Others still are great for easy halloween dress up. Which one do you think you’ll start on first?
